3T and Open Breast MRI.
Your Breast MRI will be performed on a state of the art 3T magnet with a specially designed (16 channel) breast coil. For claustrophobic patients Breast MRI's will be performed on the 1T Open MRI machine. You will be given a gown to wear and will go onto the table and lay on your stomach. You will then place your breast into a circular breast coil. There is also padding to rest your head so that you can relax for your scan. This exam also requires contrast that will be administered once you are in the room for your scan.

The American Cancer Society recommends (and most insurance companies pay for) an annual Breast MRI for women who have one or more of the following risk factors:
-
A diagnosis of breast cancer
-
Two or more relatives with breast cancer
-
A family member diagnosed with breast cancer under age 50
-
A male relative with breast cancer
-
A family history or a previous diagnosis of ovarian cancer
-
BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation
-
No BRCA test result but a first degree relative with BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutations
-
A 20% or greater lifetime risk of breast cancer using a risk assessment program. Click here
